President’s Message Dear NPAC Members & Friends, I wish to acknowledge the great support that the North Port Sun newspaper has given the North Port Art Center by exposing the community to our various classes, workshops, "Bowls of Hope" activities, Free Kid's Saturday art classes, and 8-week "Fun"-tastic summer art camp. Do read our Executive Director Carol Neagles' message in detail and mark your calendars with the dates. Mia Schober-King, the NPAC webmaster, has taken us into the 21st century by arranging for NPAC to have a Quick Response (QR code), a maze-like box design, attached to our literature, which takes the viewer directly to our website northportartcenter.com for details of events. The QR code can be read by smart phones, iPods and similar devices equipped with a camera. This small square design can take one directly to a website, play a video, save NPAC contact information to their contact manager, or dial a phone number. Place your computer cursor over the QR code and it will take you to our website. Download a free app to your device: Red Laser or ATTscanner; then point your device at the QR code. Do something different! Take a NPAC class or workshop and get your creative juices flowing. I was in Michigan August 22-29 and rode a motorcycle for the first time, behind my son-in-law, 17 miles each way to a club rally. Visited a sewing club that I arranged to have meet monthly at my former Troy, MI church, 25 years ago. There were 125 women from all over the Detroit area sharing ideas, and strolling among the members modeling their creations. I sat at the breakfast table at my daughter's house, north of Oxford, MI, and watched a deer leisurely munch its way across the back of their wooded 5-acre lot. Attended an all day Troy, MI church retreat, and my family reunion, and had lunch with dear friends in beautiful, sunny,75 degree weather. It was refreshing! See you September 10, 4-6pm, at the Kaleidoscope and New Member Art Shows Reception, if not sooner. And September 12, 7pm for the monthly member meeting and demo by Jeff Davis. Also, the next "Bowls of Hope" bowl making will be September 22, 6pm to 8 pm, in the Clay Art & Sculpture Studio. Do make reservations to help, call 941-423-6460. All of these are open to the public; bring a friend or neighbor. I will be concentrating on grant writing in September. Louise Hall, President |

Nate Boyette. Super Nate is an outgoing, friendly, talented and we might add, VERY STRONG man! He is on the Board of Directors here at the NPAC. He has been a member here at the Center ever since we opened the doors. His two sons are involved in many art youth activities here. Whenever there is a task that involves brain and brawn we call Mr. Nate. He always has a way, works out a plan and recruits the forces needed to get the job done. Nate now does the shopping for the NPAC office and cleaning supplies. He is also a very talented artist. Most of all we appreciate his good looks, huge smile and encouraging words to all the staff. Thank you Nate, for bringing the sunshine with you when you walk in the door! We appreciate you and all you do. |

Executive Director’s Message Thank You Clare Harvey for such an outstanding and successful "FUN"-tasic Art Camp-2011." Over 200 students received an education in the arts, learning while exploring many mediums. Clare Harvey Carmen Sleeth Festival sARTée "Arts Alive" will be hosted here at the North Port Art Center on October 15 & 22, 2011. Last year, this was a first-time event that was hands-on fun. Come celebrate the marriage of visual and performing artists. Each night, there will be 15 visual art demonstrations in a variety of mediums, including watercolor, oil, acrylic, pastel, pencil, mixed-media, stained glass, clay sculpture, and potters creating on the wheel. I would like to encourage you to come and bring your friends to showcase the talents here at the NPAC. We are asking our members to bring their favorite dish to share. Come and celebrate "Arts Alive". October 15, Saturday, 7-9pm Performance artists will be The Joyful Ringers made up of musicians from the North Port Band, Chorale, Orchestra and the Community, performing bell-ringer favorites; Winging It Trio of music especially created for the event; Josh Rodrigues acoustic Latino guitar arrangements; Lamarque Elementary Chorus Group a delightful young vocalist group. October 22, Saturday, 7-9pm Enjoy art demonstrations, while the following musical artists perform: Joyful Ringers, Winging It, and Josh Rodrigues. Experience an eclectic fusion of the arts while enjoying light hors d'oeuvres and refreshments in the beauty of the "Kaleidoscope" art exhibition on display in the gallery. This is a fun evening celebrating the visual and performing Aarts. Get dressed up, bring a friend and enjoy a wonderful night with us here at the Art Center! Members are invited to share in the fun. If you would are interested in doing an art demonstration, please contact, Carol Neagles at the NPAC. This is a members driven Art Center. We need volunteers to answer phones, take people on tours, help with filing and organizing paper work, make phone calls to our members, and much more. We are in need of someone who knows how to operate Excel files to make data entries once a month for an hour or two. This would be a huge help to us here at the NPAC. Grant Writers are needed, too! We appreciate all the work, time, and talent that the NPAC volunteers give to help us bloom and grow into the Art Center we are. We are flourishing in our community, the visual arts are having a big impact on the citizens of North Port. Over 13,000 volunteer hours have been logged in since the first of the year. Way to go NPAC! I am so blessed by all of you. The members here are a giving and caring group of people that truly enhance the quality of life to our area. Truly, it is more blessed to give than to receive, and you are the proof. Mark your calendars for March 24, 2012. We will be having a Fund Raiser here at the Center— "Cabaret with Kitt Moran." Tickets will be $50 and available to NPAC members first. You won't want to miss this event. Details will be available soon. Our next General Meeting will be September 12 at 7pm here at the NPAC. Floor Nominations for 2012 Board Members will be taken from NPAC Members at this important meeting. Demonstrating Artist will be Jeff Davis, working in pastels. Come, meet our friendly and talented members. Meetings are open to the public. The Butterfly Garden is flourishing. Monarch Butterflies are everywhere. Passion Vine is setting fruit. Pentas are beautiful. The flower boxes are a delight to see every day. The next Members Exhibit is "Kaleidoscope", receiving of new artwork will be August 27, 10am-1pm. Hopefully, you will not be shy about entering your artwork. Visitors to the Gallery come in on a regular basis to enjoy the talents of you, the artists. Reception will be September 10, 4-6pm. Your ideas and vision are always welcome here. Check our website at northportartcenter.com to see the listing for the new Fall Class schedule and Workshops. If you have never ventured out to take a class here, you don't know what you are missing. Come take a class and be encouraged in your art. Try a different medium. You will find our instructors and students will nurture your giftings and talents to help you achieve new heights in your work. The classes we offer here are fun, relaxing, and insightful. If you are interested in putting some of your work on display in Art in Public Places, please do put your name in the Artist's Lottery Box on the front counter. You do not need to have a full body of work to be part of this. Lovingly, Carol Neagles, Executive Director |
